Another school shooting stopped by armed resource officer

An Illinois school resource officer is being praised as a hero for intervening when a former student opened fire Wednesday morning at Dixon High School.

The suspect continued to shoot at the officer and the officer returned fire, Howell said.

“I could not be more proud of the officer … because of his heroic actions lives were saved,” Dixon police Chief Steven C. Howell Jr. said.

Like Dixon High School, resource officers have been recently credited with stopping school shootings from becoming worse or preventing them all together.
